The PS5 DualSense controller has a built-in 6-axis motion sensor, a 3-axis gyroscope paired with a 3-axis accelerometer. In PC shooters, mapping this to camera movement gets you noticeably closer to mouse-like aiming precision without giving up the ergonomics of holding a controller.
DS5Windows (DSX) lets you route your DualSense’s gyro data as either raw mouse input or an emulated stick input, depending on what a given game responds to better.
Choosing an Output Mode
Inside a profile’s Gyro tab, DSX gives you an Output Mode setting that controls how physical tilting gets translated into camera or stick movement.
Mouse Mode
This treats controller tilt as direct mouse movement, similar to how you’d expect a mouse to behave, no stick-style smoothing curve layered on top. It tends to work best in games that support mouse and gamepad input at the same time, competitive shooters especially, since it gives you that fine aim-correction feel without losing the rest of your controller input.
Controls Mode
This routes gyro tilt into an existing analog stick axis instead, most commonly used for things like steering input in racing games, where tilting the controller left or right feels closer to turning a wheel than the right stick does.
Which mode fits depends entirely on the game, some titles only recognize simultaneous mouse and controller input for Mouse mode to work correctly, so if aiming doesn’t respond as expected, that’s the first thing worth checking.
Setting Up Gyro Aiming
Steps
- Open DSX, go to the Profiles tab, and edit your active DualSense profile.
- Open the Gyro tab.
- Set the Output Mode to Mouse (for aiming) or Controls (for stick-style input like steering).
- Set an activation trigger. By default, gyro tends to be active all the time, which most players find distracting during normal movement. Binding activation to L2, or whatever your aim-down-sights button is, means the gyro only kicks in while you’re actually aiming.
- Confirm your axis mapping, horizontal tilt (yaw) should control left/right camera movement, and vertical tilt (pitch) should control up/down.
Tuning Sensitivity and Reducing Jitter
Motion sensors pick up even small hand tremors, so getting the sensitivity and deadzone right matters more here than with a standard stick.
In-Game Settings
Turn up your in-game mouse sensitivity slightly if needed, and turn off any smoothing, acceleration curves, or camera blur the game applies, these tend to fight against gyro input rather than help it.
DSX Sensitivity
Start with a moderate sensitivity multiplier rather than jumping straight to a high value, different games and different DSX versions respond differently, so there isn’t one universal “correct” number here. Adjust gradually until small hand movements produce the aim response you expect, without feeling twitchy.
Deadzone
Add a small deadzone to filter out sensor jitter while your hands are resting, too little and you’ll get camera drift when you’re not trying to aim, too much and you’ll lose fine micro-adjustments. This is worth tuning by feel rather than copying an exact number from a guide, since controller units and grip style vary.
Calibration
Place the controller flat on a stable surface and use DSX’s calibration option to zero out baseline sensor drift. This is worth redoing occasionally, especially if you notice your camera slowly drifting even when the controller is sitting still.
Getting the Feel Right
Split Between Stick and Gyro
A common approach is using the right stick for big camera sweeps and full turns, then letting gyro handle the small stuff, tracking a moving target, correcting for recoil, fine-tuning your crosshair. Trying to do everything with gyro alone tends to feel exhausting over a full session.
Avoid Leaving Gyro Always-On At First
Binding gyro activation to a trigger like L2 rather than leaving it always active makes the transition much easier to get used to, and prevents your camera from drifting around during normal movement or platforming when you’re not even trying to aim.
Bluetooth vs USB for Motion Controls
Motion sensor data can be less consistent over Bluetooth on some setups compared to a wired USB connection, if your gyro aiming feels inconsistent or laggy, try switching to USB before assuming your settings are wrong.
