Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need regarding DSX/DS5Windows compatibility, system specs, and features is right here. Still have questions? Reach out to our official support team anytime.
Is DS5 Windows Safe?
Yes. DSX doesn’t contain malware or spyware, and it only interacts with the controller drivers and system components it needs for input handling.
It doesn’t access your personal files, collect private data, or make unauthorized system changes.
For safety, always get it from the official Steam page, or choose DS5Windows.dev that’s the actively maintained source, and avoid random third-party download sites.
How Does DS5 Windows Work?
DSX/DS5Windows is built for the PS5 DualSense controller and gives it full feature support: adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, lightbar control, and custom profiles.
It also supports the DualShock 4 as a real input controller, just without adaptive triggers or advanced haptics, since that hardware simply doesn’t have those features. It’s not “limited support” so much as DS4 hardware not having those capabilities to begin with.
Who Developed DS5 Windows?
DSX (DualSenseX) is developed by Paliverse. It’s not a community or independent-developer project, it’s built and maintained by one developer/team, distributed through Steam, with regular updates.
What Do Adaptive Triggers Do?
Adaptive Triggers add variable resistance to the L2 and R2 triggers. With DSX, supported games and profiles can use this to:
- Simulate weapon recoil or draw weight
- Add resistance for acceleration and braking
- Create tension tied to specific in-game actions
It’s one of the features that makes the DualSense feel noticeably different from a standard controller.
Do I Need DS5 Windows If a Game Supports DualSense Natively?
Not always. Some PC games already support DualSense features natively over USB.
DSX is still worth using if you want:
- Profile customization per game
- Button remapping
- Virtual controller emulation for games without native PlayStation support
- More consistent Bluetooth behavior
It gives you more control than relying on native support alone.
Does Haptic Feedback Work Over Bluetooth?
It used to be much more limited, but this has improved. Paliverse added DualSense and DualSense Edge Bluetooth audio and haptics support in a recent DSX update, so Bluetooth haptics are better than they used to be.
That said, USB is still the more reliable option if you want the fullest, most precise haptic experience, especially for audio-based haptics.
How Many DualSense Controllers Can I Connect?
DSX/DS5Windows supports multiple controllers at once, both over USB and Bluetooth. Actual limits depend on your PC’s USB ports and Bluetooth adapter, not on DSX itself.
Is ViGEm Driver Required?
Yes, in almost all cases. ViGEmBus is what creates the virtual controller that games actually detect. Without it, most games won’t recognize your input correctly.
What is HidHide?
HidHide is a driver that hides your physical controller from games once DSX’s virtual controller is active. This prevents the common “double input” issue, where both controllers get detected and every button press registers twice.
What's the Advantage of Using an Emulated Virtual Controller?
Emulation (Xbox 360 or DualShock 4 mode) improves compatibility:
- Games that only recognize Xbox controllers will work
- Button mapping stays consistent across titles
- Fewer input conflicts overall
- Smoother integration with Steam and other launchers
Can DSX/DS5Windows Emulate DualSense Over Bluetooth?
Yes. DSX supports DualSense over both USB and Bluetooth, including adaptive triggers and (as of recent updates) Bluetooth audio and haptics. USB still edges out Bluetooth on latency and full feature precision, but Bluetooth is a genuinely usable option now, not just a fallback.
Where to Download DS5 Windows?
From the official Steam page or choose DS5Windows.dev. That’s the current, actively maintained version. Avoid third-party download sites.
Where to Get Source Code?
There’s an older open build on GitHub, but Paliverse has since moved development fully to Steam, and the GitHub version (v1.4.9) is no longer updated or supported. The current, maintained version of DSX is Steam-only at this point.
Does DS5 Windows Work With Steam, Epic, and Other Launchers?
Yes: Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and standalone PC games all work fine with DSX running. Controller support stays consistent across all of them.
What Should I Do If My Controller Is Not Detected?
- Check your USB cable or Bluetooth connection
- Restart DSX
- Reinstall ViGEmBus and HidHide if needed
- Reconnect the controller
- Restart your PC

How Do I Update DS5 Windows?
Since DSX is distributed through Steam, updates happen automatically the same way any other Steam game or app updates, no manual download or separate update system needed.
