How to Install DS5 Windows
Follow these steps after downloading:
- Extract the download package to an easy-to-access folder.
- Run DS5Windows.exe as administrator.
- Windows may prompt for permission – click Allow.
- Follow the on-screen installation steps.
Once installed, DS5 Windows will launch and be ready to detect your DualSense controller.
Requirements
Before installation, ensure your system meets these requirements:
- Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- PS5 DualSense controller (USB or Bluetooth)
- Latest Microsoft .NET Runtime installed
- Optional (but recommended): ViGEmBus Driver
- Optional: HidHide Driver to prevent double input
- A Sony DualShock 4, DualSense, or other supported controller
- A way to connect it: USB cable, Sony’s wireless adapter, or Bluetooth 4.0 – though only the Microsoft Bluetooth stack works reliably; CSR and Toshiba adapters tend to cause problems
- If you’re on Steam, turn off PlayStation Configuration Support and Xbox Configuration Support in your controller settings first

Recommended Setup Steps
After downloading:
- Install the ViGEmBus driver (required for controller emulation)
- Install HidHide (recommended to avoid input issues)
- Reboot your PC before connecting your controller
- Connect your DualSense controller via USB or Bluetooth
- Launch DS5 Windows and verify detection
This setup helps avoid common recognition or input conflicts.

Which One Should You Use?
DS4Windows is the better fit for broad compatibility across DualShock 3, DualShock 4, and DualSense controllers, and it’s maintained by Ryochan7 and the open-source community under a GPL-3.0 license – we host a verified copy of it directly here. Adaptive trigger and haptic feedback support is more limited, since it wasn’t built specifically around DualSense’s newer hardware.
